Holiday protest
The week's news at a glance.
Crawford, Texas
Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, returned to Texas to lead a protest outside President Bush’s ranch during his family’s Thanksgiving gathering. The appearance drew a fraction of the attention Sheehan attracted in August when she camped out, calling for Bush to bring U.S. forces home. “I’m heartbroken that we have to be here again,” Sheehan told approximately 100 protesters. A dozen Bush supporters gathered nearby in downtown Crawford holding signs reading “Cindy Go Home.” In his weekly radio address, Bush said he planned to honor the sacrifice of the war dead by completing their “noble mission.”
