Feminists caused gay marriage
The week's news at a glance.
Vatican City
The Roman Catholic Church this week blamed feminism for the breakdown of the family and the increasing acceptance of gay marriage. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the head of the Vatican’s orthodoxy watchdog group Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, outlined the position in a new document, On the Collaboration of Men and Women in the Church and in the World. By questioning the “natural, two-parent structure of the family,” the paper states, feminism has made “homosexuality and heterosexuality virtually equivalent, in a new model of polymorphous sexuality.” At the same time, the document advocates equal rights for women in the workplace and calls for employers to be flexible, so women “do not have to choose between relinquishing their family life or enduring continual stress.”
