Golden Globe Awards 2023: the big winners from the night
Hollywood’s biggest stars walked the red carpet in Beverly Hills for the 80th Golden Globe Awards
It was a return to form for the Golden Globes last night as Hollywood’s brightest stars turned out in their finest to walk the red carpet after a year off the air.
Hollywood stars “returned in their droves” to the Golden Globes award ceremony – which was held in private last year after being mired in controversy over lack of diversity and ethical failings – despite fears celebrities might avoid this year’s event, said the BBC.
But those fears quickly proved to be “unfounded”, said the broadcaster with the nominees and guests “happy to pose for photos” as they walked the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
The night’s biggest winners were Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, his semi-autobiographical family drama which also won him best director, Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, as well as hit comedy Abbott Elementary and prestige television shows House of the Dragon and The White Lotus.
It was Jennifer Coolidge, star of satirical comedy The White Lotus and Best Supporting Actress winner, who became the night’s “biggest talking point”, said The Telegraph. Seemingly “half in character as the ditzy, comically effusive Tanya”, she spoke of her late entry onto the Hollywood A-list and thanked show writer and creator Mike White for changing her life through her involvement with the show.
“I just... truly, I just want you all to know that I had such big dreams and expectations as a younger person, but what happened is they get sort of fizzled by life,” said Coolidge. She added: “Mike White, you have given me hope. You’ve given me a new beginning. Even if this is the end, because you did kill me off, but even if this is the end, you changed my life in a million different ways”.
