Syria has given up the last 100 metric tons of its reported chemical weapons stockpile, and the deadly material can finally be transferred to a U.S. cargo ship and destroyed at sea, according to Reuters. The Syrian government had delayed handing over the last chemicals while battling rebel forces in the area where the material was being held.

Though Syria ditched its chemical weapons ahead of next Monday's deadline, it will not meet the original goal of ensuring that the material, as well as all related storage and production facilities, are destroyed by that date, too. It will be several more weeks, or possibly months, before those requirements are met.
