31 killed in terrorist attack in northwest China
Attackers in two cars crashed into a market in China's volatile Xinjiang region and threw explosives into a crowd of shoppers, killing 31 people and wounding more than 90, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported Thursday. The attack, in the regional capital of Urumqi, was the deadliest reported yet in a series of such attacks since last year. No terrorist group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but suspicion immediately fell on Muslim Uighurs separatists, who are challenging Han Chinese rule in the region.
