GOOD DAY FOR: Preemptive strikes, after Microsoft released the newest versions of its Zune portable media player, before Apple’s expected introduction of a new iPod today. The new Zunes have more storage capacity and new features, like the ability to buy songs heard on the radio. Apple has sold more than 100 million iPods since 2001, Microsoft has sold more than 2 million Zunes since 2006. (MarketWatch)
BAD DAY FOR: Old news, after a 2002 story about United Airlines’ bankruptcy filing appeared on Bloomberg’s ticker, briefly sending UAL’s stock down to about $3 a share, from about $12. The story was posted to the Bloomberg Professional service by a reporter from the Florida-based Income Securities Advisors, who found the item after doing a Google search for “bankruptcy 2008.” (The Washington Post)
