Dog eats teen's homework
A Colorado schoolgirl was able to give her teacher the oldest excuse in the book when her dog actually ate her homework. Payton Moody, 13, had just finished building her science class project—a candy-covered volcano held together by 50 metal pins—when her yellow Lab, Reggie, found it and scarfed down the whole thing. The dog had to undergo surgery to have the pins removed from his stomach. Moody remade her science project, using glue this time. “I got an A,” she said.

Qatar's World Cup stadium
The nation of Qatar found itself being mocked throughout the world after people noticed that its proposed stadium for the 2022 soccer World Cup looked like a certain part of the female anatomy. The designers of the 40,000-seat Al Wakrah arena said the building was inspired by the dhow boats “that carried generations of local fishermen and pearl divers.” But observers saw another image in the curved sides of the stadium’s roof opening. “I’m no expert,” said Anna Breslaw, sex and relationships editor at, “but I think those are labia.”

Robber picks wrong bank
A stickup artist in a ski mask attempted to rob a bank in the town of Union, Maine, only to discover that the branch had just closed. An employee allegedly saw Joseph Lewis pulling on the bank’s locked doors in frustration, and called police as the suspect drove off. Police say they caught Lewis near another bank, and found a BB gun in his vehicle. He was charged with attempted robbery.
