Why Clooney doesn’t tweet

“I don’t—for the life of me—I don’t understand why any famous person would ever be on Twitter,” George Clooney says.

George Clooney won’t be joining Twitter anytime soon, said Tom Junod in Esquire. The actor can’t comprehend why a celebrity would ever voluntarily sign up to the social networking site, given how overexposed they already are. “I don’t—for the life of me—I don’t understand why any famous person would ever be on Twitter,” he says. “Why on God’s green earth would you be on Twitter? The worst thing you can do is make yourself more available, right? Because you’re going to be available to everybody.” In the heat of the moment, Clooney says, the temptation to post something stupid on Twitter is just too great. “You come home and you’ve had two too many drinks and you’re watching TV and somebody pisses you off, and you go, ‘Ehhhhh,’ and fight back. And you wake up in the morning and your career is over. Or you’re an a--hole.” The famous people Clooney admires most are the ones who maintain a dignified silence. “When you see, like, Ashton Kutcher going, ‘Everybody leave Joe Paterno alone,’ or whatever he said, you just go, ‘Fifteen minutes longer and a thought process and you probably wouldn’t have done that.’”
