Best apps for home-improvement projects
Handyman Calculator, House Maintenance Schedule, and more
Handyman Calculator “takes care of all the heavy mental lifting” required when planning a home project, from laying bathroom tile to building stairs or ordering materials for a concrete slab. It’s an app that Android users can download free. For iOS phones, try Home Improvements Calcs, a $2 app that has many of the same functions.
House Maintenance Schedule helps homeowners stay on top of maintenance tasks, “from flushing the water heater to changing HVAC filters.” Log in work when it’s done, and this calendar app provides reminders when a new chore needs attention. (Android only; free, or $2 for premium)
The Family Handyman DIY Tip Genius is a good place to turn when you’re stumped by a project. The free version has 300 DIY tips from Reader’s Digest; for $5, you get 1,800. (Android or iOS)
