Charity of the week: Our Military Kids
Our Military Kids has provided $15.5 million to children of injured service personnel as well as to children of National Guard and Reserve members.
Our Military Kids (ourmilitarykids.org) helps support the children of National Guard and Reserve personnel, as well as those of wounded service members, by providing grants for extracurricular activities and tutoring. Many families are financially strapped while a parent is deployed or recovering from military injuries, leaving them unable to pay the fees for sports, fine arts, tutoring programs, and other extracurricular activities. Our Military Kids has stepped in to fill the gap since 2004, providing nearly 39,000 grants totaling $15.5 million to children of injured service personnel as well as to children of National Guard and Reserve members, many of whom fall outside the parameters of established military support programs.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
