Show of the week: Great Performances at the Met: Wagner’s Ring Cycle
PBS is treating viewers to Robert Lepage’s high-tech, controversial production of the four operas in Wagner’s epic.
For the first time in 20-plus years, TV viewers have the opportunity to see the four operas that compose Wagner’s epic in one production, as Great Performances airs Robert Lepage’s recent staging at New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Lepage’s high-tech set stirred controversy, but the cast, including Deborah Voigt as Brünnhilde and tenor Jay Hunter Morris in the fiendishly challenging role of Siegfried, is excellent. James Levine and Fabio Luisi conduct. Tuesday–Friday, Sept. 11–14, at 9 p.m., PBS; check local listings
