This five-week series explores the changing role of women in war: They have moved to the forefront in the peacemaking process but are also suffering an unprecedented share of war casualties. The series’s opener, “I Came to Testify,” reveals how the courageous testimony of 16 women who were raped and imprisoned by Serb-led forces in a Bosnian town brought about new international laws regarding sexual violence in war.
