Directed by Martin Scorsese with the cooperation of George Harrison’s widow, this documentary plumbs diaries and other archival materials to trace the musical and spiritual quest that was the former Beatle’s life. Though it’s affectionate, the two-part film is also a nuanced portrait of a sometimes troubled artist who explored drugs, Eastern religion, and meditation in his quest for serenity. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Eric Clapton are among those who speak frankly about Harrison’s complexities. Wednesday–Thursday, Oct. 5–6, at 9 p.m., HBO
