Gossip: Mel Gibson
Gibson is planning a new movie about Judah Maccabee, a choice that drew criticism from Jewish organizations.
Mel Gibson is making a movie about Jewish hero Judah Maccabee, said TMZ.com. Gibson’s choice of subject drew criticism last week from Jewish organizations. “It would be a travesty to have the story of the Maccabees told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views,” read a statement by the Anti-Defamation League. The actor and director infamously made anti-Semitic remarks to police officers during his 2006 DUI arrest, and his 2004 film The Passion of the Christ was criticized for anti-Jewish overtones.
