The Winklevoss twins' 'bizarre' pistachio ad
Mark Zuckerberg's litigious enemies poke fun at the Facebook founder, and themselves, in their new role as nut-hawking pitchmen

The video: Last year, The Social Network gave us a fictional version of the Winklevoss twins, the strapping doubles who claim Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for Facebook while the three were students at Harvard. Now, the real-life Winklevii are getting some screen time. The twins, who scored a $65 million settlement with Facebook that they later unsuccessfully challenged (in the hopes of getting even more money), are appearing in a "bizarre" new ad for Wonderful Pistachios. (Watch the clip below.) One Winklevoss cleverly cracks open a nut with one hand. The other says, "Hey, that's a good idea. Cracking it like that. Could be huge." The nut-cracking Winklevoss worries: "Do you think someone will steal it?" Then they both mug for the camera: "Who'd do that?"
The reaction: "Their big Facebook settlement was paid in illiquid private stock," says Ryan Tate at Gawker, "so let's hope they got some real TV dough for this spot." It's good to see these guys can "laugh at themselves a little," says Chris Matyszczyk at CNET. "This surely counteracts the view of former Harvard president Larry Summers that they are a--holes." It's a coin flip whether this ad is "funny or sad," says SodaHead News. The Winklevoss fellas now join a list of less-than-illustrious celebrities, from Rod Blagojevich to Snooki, to appear in these pistachio ads. "Either the Winklevoss twins really like pistachios, or they need money bad." Check it out:
