Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen may have been killed at random by a gunman stalking motorists, rather than as the result of a planned “hit,’’ said the TheDailyBeast.com. Police said this week they had no evidence that Harold Martin Smith, an ex-convict who bragged about his involvement in Chasen’s murder before killing himself, had been connected to Chasen’s death. The website reported a rumor that two other motorists had recently been menaced or shot by a gunman, but police told the Los Angeles Times they had no record of these crimes. Police say the investigation into Chasen’s death remains wide open.
