Show of the week: Cropsey: The Urban Legend
The show of the week investigates the story of Cropsey, a murderous patient who escaped from a Staten Island mental institution.
The tale of “Cropsey” once seemed just a bit of New York City lore, about a murderous patient who supposedly had escaped from a Staten Island mental institution. But when several children in the borough disappeared in the 1980s, it seemed all too real. This unsettling film chronicles two documentarians’ investigation, which led to a homeless man convicted of kidnapping, allegations of devil worship, and hidden tunnels beneath the institution. Every discovery only takes them deeper into a thicket of fact and folklore. Friday, Aug. 13, at 9 p.m., Investigation Discovery
