Gossip: Rapper Wyclef Jean
The presidential elections in Haiti are scheduled for February 2011. Will the former Fugees frontman be on the ballot?
Rapper Wyclef Jean is considering running for president of Haiti, said Us Weekly. The Haitian-born former Fugees frontman, whose charity, Yele Haiti, has been active in the earthquake-torn country, announced this week that he has filled out the necessary paperwork to run for office. “I can’t sing forever,” said Jean, adding that friends had “drafted” him into politics. Elections are tentatively scheduled for February 2011. Jean’s Haitian charity has been widely criticized for financial irregularities, such as paying Jean to perform at fundraising events, but he had denied any wrongdoing.
