Airlines increase ticket prices
Travelers are returning to the skies, and airlines are celebrating with price increases. The price of the average round-trip ticket for Memorial Day weekend is around 18 percent higher than last year. “Almost any cheap seats are sold out,” said Rick Seaney of travel site FareCompare.com.

Bond issuers miss debt payments
Since last July, 200 states, cities, and other authorities that issue tax-exempt municipal bonds have missed interest payments on their bonds. The recession has shrunk the tax revenues and user fees that bond issuers depend on to service their debt.

Avatar, which has earned a record $2.7 billion at the box office, is also breaking records on DVD. Just two weeks after its release, the Blu-ray DVD of Avatar has sold nearly 2.5 million copies in the U.S., edging past The Dark Knight as the best-selling Blu-ray DVD ever.

Banks seized a record 92,000 homes in April, and more foreclosures are coming: 7.4 million borrowers, or 12 percent of all mortgagees, have missed at least one payment or are in foreclosure.
