David Lean’s adaptation of Boris Pasternak’s novel about the Russian Revolution was gorgeous before it was restored, but now it “dazzles,” said the San Jose Mercury News. This special edition DVD includes a 44-page booklet and a new documentary about the legacy of the “thickly romantic” film.

Roger Corman’s Cult Classics
(Shout! Factory, $20 each)
The “king of cheap-but-cutting-edge” films, producer-director Roger Corman knew a good project when he saw one, said The Toronto Sun. A series of his cult classics kicks off with 1979’s Rock ’n’ Roll High School, starring the Ramones, and 1983’s Suburbia, a “crude yet dangerous drama” about disaffected California youth.

Though the musical Nine was a hit on Broadway, the film version didn’t have audiences singing along, said the New York Daily News. Still, it’s fun to watch Penélope Cruz and Marion Cotillard, among others, sing and dance their way through the musical numbers inspired by Federico Fellini’s 8½.
