Bob Dylan has been banned in China. Wary of the 68-year-old singer’s counterculture past, the Chinese government refused to give him permission to play in Beijing and Shanghai. China’s Ministry of Culture has been increasingly selective about allowing foreigners to perform since a 2008 concert by Björk in Shanghai, in which the singer chanted “Tibet! Tibet!” while performing a song called “Declare Independence.”
