A CBS News producer pleaded guilty this week to attempted blackmail of late-night comedian David Letterman for
$2 million, in revenge for Letterman’s long-running affair with the producer’s girlfriend. Robert Halderman, 51, had threatened to reveal Letterman’s many affairs with female staffers of his Late Show, including Stephanie Birkitt, who lived with Halderman at the time. Halderman, who’d faced up to 15 years in prison, was sentenced to six months in return for his guilty plea.
