William Shatner’s equine fetish

William Shatner is crazy about horses, says Andrew Corsello in GQ. The 78-year-old actor has been breeding and showing American saddlebreds and quarter horses for years, and his love of them is downright rapturous. That’s especially true when rider and beast are in perfect sync. The experience, Shatner says, is “the same unity you feel with your partner at a supreme moment of making love. The same unity great lovemaking has when you’re in love with the person you’re making love to, when there is already a union of spirit and your bodies are unified. That is the feeling.” Warming to the subject, his voice lilting with the dramatic emphasis that is his professional trademark, Shatner describes the unspoken connection between man and horse: “I am telling you, the joy that can happen when you and the horse are talking to one another—‘Come now … don’t turn too fast, don’t turn your head that way, no no …’ But Bill, I want to turn my head this way! This is what I’m used to! ‘Come now, no no, I am with you, I am listening to you, be with me …’ Okay, I am listening—and suddenly the two are unified, so that that horse running is you. You are running. You are running! You are enthralled! You are in a blissful, joyful, ecstatic state!”
