Singer Chris Brown this week pleaded guilty to one count of assault of his ex-girlfriend, the singer Rihanna, in exchange for a sentence of five years of probation and six months of cleaning trash or graffiti. Rihanna came to court prepared to testify, but was told it would not be necessary. After the plea, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg told Brown, “I think it’s commendable you took responsibility for your conduct.” She also issued an order, not requested by Rihanna, for both parties to stay at least 50 yards away from each other at all times, except at music industry events, at which the required distance is reduced to 10 yards.
