Show of the week: Nurse Jackie
Sopranos' Edie Falco returns to series television as Jackie Peyton, a veteran emergency room nurse at New York City’s All Saints Hospital.
Edie Falco, fresh from her acclaimed role on The Sopranos, returns to series television as the heroine of this dark new comedy. She plays Jackie Peyton, a veteran emergency room nurse at New York City’s All Saints Hospital, who is an angel of both mercy and vengeance. Jackie secretly compensates for the shortcomings of doctors and the inequities of the health-care system, while juggling ethical conflicts in her own life (she has sworn off alcohol but takes unprescribed medication for her injured back). Inspired by the journal of a real-life nurse, the character looks to be as complex and compelling as that of Carmela Soprano. Monday, June 8, at 10:30 p.m., Showtime
