Hitler’s favorite meal: A Belgian public television station canceled its planned airing this week of a show about Adolf Hitler’s favorite meal. The Flemish broadcaster VRT was going to feature Hitler on an episode of its popular show Favorite Dish, which profiles the food choices of such notables as singer Freddie Mercury and artist Salvador Dalí. But after Jewish groups protested, VRT pulled the Hitler episode. “There is a wrong perception that the show would humanize or, worse, glorify Hitler,” the station said. The episode would have showed a chef traveling to southern Germany to prepare trout in butter sauce, a meal the Führer often requested.

Was Haider gay? The Austrian press was abuzz this week with speculation that far-right leader Jörg Haider, who died in a car crash earlier this month, was secretly gay. The rumors began after Stefan Petzner, a young political protégé of Haider’s, broke down in tears while speaking of Haider, calling him “the man in my life.” Since then Petzner has refused to confirm or deny that there had been a sexual relationship, prompting the press to call for clarity. “Stefan Petzner needs to make a decision,” Michael Fleischhacker, editor in chief of the daily Die Presse, wrote in his blog. “Either he describes what was so special about his relationship with Jörg Haider, or he stops publicly playing the role of Haider’s widow.” Haider, 58, was married with two kids.
