Hotel of the week: Hotel Therme
The Hotel Therme spa in Vals, Switzerland, is set high in the Alps and is known above all for its bathhouse.
Hotel Therme
Vals, Switzerland
This hotel spa high in the Alps, 120 miles southeast of Zurich, is renowned for its “stunning, contemporary bathhouse,” said Susan Spano in the Los Angeles Times. Swiss architect Peter Zumthor used 60,000 stone slabs to create ceiling blocks and polished floor planks. Guests can choose to soak in any of several variously shaped pools with water set at different temperatures. Terraces are lined with Zumthor-designed chaise longues and sweat chambers. The hotel’s best rooms are housed in a “curving, white, midcentury-modern building.” A formal dinner is served in the appropriately named Red Room. “After a relaxing day, what could be better?”
