PETA’s border message, Horse masseuse sues
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to rent ad space on the controversial U.S.-Mexico border fence warning illegal immigrants about the health risks of the American diet.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to rent ad space on the controversial U.S.-Mexico border fence. PETA’s proposed billboard would depict obese Americans and warn in English and Spanish that “If the Border Patrol Doesn’t Get You, the Chicken and Burgers Will—Go Vegan.” PETA says the signs will warn potential illegal immigrants that “if they cross into the U.S. they are putting their health at risk by leaving behind a healthier, staple diet of corn tortillas, beans, rice, fruits, and vegetables.”
A woman is suing Maryland for the right to massage horses. Mercedes Clemens, 40, a licensed masseuse who’s built up a practice of 30 horses, ran afoul of a state law that limits any animal treatment to veterinarians. Clemens says the ban is discriminatory. “If it was just me it wouldn’t really be worth all of this,” she said, after filing her lawsuit. “But this is a much bigger constitutional issue.”
