Americans are skeptical of the motives of candidates who have called for a temporary gas tax moratorium, with 70% saying politicians support the measure “to help themselves politically,” not “to help average Americans.” Still, the country is about evenly split on the merits of a gas tax holiday, with 49% saying it’s a bad idea and 45% saying it’s a good idea.
