Pelosi in flight
The week's news at a glance.
Washington, D.C.
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi came under partisan attack last week for using a large military jet to ferry her back and forth between Washington and her home district in San Francisco. Florida Rep. Adam Putnam, the No. 3 Republican leader, called the plane “an extravagance of power that the taxpayers won’t swallow.” But House security officials said Pelosi flew on military aircraft at their insistence. As speaker, Pelosi is second in line to the presidency if the president dies or is incapacitated.
