Gaza
Israel said this week it had found proof of its longtime claim that Palestinian groups were smuggling weapons into Gaza through tunnels from neighboring Egypt. Army Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said that his troops, who returned to southern Gaza recently after pulling out a year ago, had located more than 100 tunnels and intercepted weapons shipments. Under an Israeli agreement with Cairo, Egyptian forces are supposed to guard the border with Gaza. But Israeli officials say the Egyptians have not made a serious effort.
