A flood of hookers
The week's news at a glance.
New Orleans
Prostitutes are pouring into New Orleans from other parts of the U.S., police said last week, drawn by the 50,000 out-of-town workers who are helping rebuild the city. The influx of prostitutes, Deputy Police Chief James Scott told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, rivals what happens when New Orleans hosts a Super Bowl. The men “have a tremendous amount of cash to spend,” Scott said. “They’re stuck here without their families, and that has attracted prostitutes.” Police say they lack the manpower—and the jail space—to do much about it.
