Sidon, Lebanon
A senior police officer who investigated the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was attacked this week. A remote-controlled bomb went off underneath Samir Shehade’s convoy as it passed through a village. He was wounded and four of his bodyguards were killed. The attack came just 10 days before a U.N. investigation is to make a report to the Security Council on the Hariri case. The report is expected to further implicate Syria.
