Bathing in beer
The week's news at a glance.
Chodova Plana, Czech Republic
A Czech brewery has begun offering spa treatments using beer. At the Chodovar brewery in western Bohemia, spa customers soak in tubs of dark beer mixed with natural spring water. “We had the beer, we had a mineral spring nearby, and we came up with the idea of beer baths,” said Mojmir Prokes, the spa’s manager. Beer is considered good for the skin because of its vitamin and yeast content. Patrons say a soak in a beer tub is delightfully relaxing; doctors suspect that the effect may be partly due to the free beer that patrons are given to sip during the treatment.
