Imam convicted
The week's news at a glance.
London
Britain’s most notorious Islamist cleric, Abu Hamza al-Masri, was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison this week for soliciting the murder of “infidels.” The one-eyed, hook-handed imam preached for six years at the Finsbury Park Mosque in London, where he called on followers to kill those who were not “true followers of Islam.” Attempted shoe bomber Richard Reid and Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called 20th hijacker, both prayed at that mosque. Al-Masri now faces a hearing to decide whether he will be extradited to the U.S., where he is accused of trying to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon.
