Taking out the white trash
The week's news at a glance.
Harare, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe will soon rid itself of the remaining “filth” of white farmers, Land Minister Didymus Mutasa said this week. Earlier this year, the government finished Operation Take Out the Trash, in which urban slums were demolished, leaving hundreds of thousands of poor blacks homeless. The same principle should be applied to the few remaining white farmers, Mutasa said. “White farmers are dirty and should be cleared out,” he told Harare’s Sunday Mail. “They are similar to the filth that was in the streets before” the operation. The government of dictator Robert Mugabe has already seized some 4,000 farms; about 400 white farmers remain.
