Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic
A brutal Mafia boss was arrested this week as he left a bakery in a northern Czech town. Czech police, who worked with Italian investigators on the case, said Luigi Putrone was living with a Czech girlfriend and may have been hiding in the area since he went on the lam in 1998. He is notorious in Italy for having kidnapped the young son of a Mafia colleague who had turned informant. The boy’s body was dissolved in a vat of acid. Putrone was also convicted in absentia of having murdered two judges. He faces life in prison when he is extradited to Italy.
