Fatah leader sentenced

Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti was sentenced to five consecutive life terms in prison this week for organizing killings and suicide bombings. Before he was arrested in 2002, Barghouti ran the Fatah movement, Yasser Arafat’s political base. The judges said that while Barghouti did not personally order attacks, he provided weapons and money and “made sure his subordinates understood very well when he was interested in a cease-fire and when he was interested in terror attacks.” Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, the terrorist wing of Fatah, called on Palestinians to kill Israelis in retaliation. “We urge all our fighters to kidnap Zionists—children, women, and soldiers—and sentence them to death,” the group said in a statement.
