Paris
London’s police commissioner went to Paris this week to retrace Princess Diana’s last steps. The commissioner, Sir John Stevens, heads a team trying to determine whether the 1997 car crash that killed Diana was really an accident. French authorities have ruled out foul play in the crash, which killed Diana, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, and her driver. But in the face of persistent conspiracy theories about the tragedy, the royal coroner, Michael Burgess, called for British officials to re-examine the evidence. Stevens will drive the route Diana’s car took, from the Ritz Hotel to the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, where it crashed. “It’s very important that I actually have a look at the scene,” he said.
