The Democrats fared better than had been expected in this week’s US midterm elections as the so-called “red wave” failed to materialise.
The Republicans weren’t able to sweep the polls as had been predicted, with President Joe Biden’s party securing key victories and maintaining house seats in key battleground states including Ohio, Virginia and Michigan.
In one of the biggest boosts for the Democrats, John Fetterman flipped Pennsylvania from red to blue in the state's senate election, defeating Mehmet Oz in what was a major blow for Donald Trump.
