On Thursday, a gunman opened fire on a police officer outside a metro station in Montrouge, a suburb in the south of Paris. The policewoman has died of her wounds, the BBC reports, and a second victim, reportedly a street sweeper, is in serious condition. The shooter is at large. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve says there is no known connection between the attack and Wednesday's massacre at the Charlie Hebdo offices.
