The NYPD is sued an average of 10 times a day
An analysis of a city report by the data blog I Quant NY found that roughly 10 lawsuits were filed against the NYPD every day last year.
The suits primarily covered "allegations of police misconduct, civil rights violations, and injury and/or damage from accidents involving police vehicles." I Quant NY looked at Comptroller Scott Stringer's ClaimStat program to find the data.
The majority of the lawsuits were filed in the Bronx, where there were about 1.10 lawsuits for every 1,000 citizens. In Manhattan, there were .44 lawsuits per 1,000 people. Head over to I Quant NY for heatmaps of the lawsuits across New York City's neighborhoods.
