The Padres have Matt Kemp and the Dodgers have less of an outfield logjam after the two California franchises agreed to a stunning trade Thursday morning. The Dodgers will send Kemp — a two-time All-Star and the 2011 MVP runner-up — to San Diego in exchange for catcher Yasmani Grandal, pitcher Joe Wieland, and prospect Zach Eflin.

It was an open secret for months that the Dodgers wanted to trade Kemp or another of their many outfielders. Even after Kemp's departure, the team has one of the best outfielders in the game (Yasiel Puig), two decent outfielders with massive contracts (Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford), and one prized prospect who could be ready for the bigs next year (Joc Pederson).
