The first major winter storm of the year left 344,000 customers in northern New England without power on Thanksgiving, after disrupting holiday travel on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Record snowfall piled up across the region, snapping tree branches and downing power lines. Officials said it could take several days to restore all power. "This is not something you should try to wait out in your house," said Michael Todd, spokesman for the New Hampshire Department of Safety.
