Police: Officer shot in St. Louis suburb, unclear if connected to Ferguson protests

A University City, Missouri, police officer was shot Monday night, but the St. Louis County Police Department says it is unclear if the shooting was related to the protests taking place in Ferguson.

A search is underway for the suspect. The shooting occurred at around 11:45 p.m. in the St. Louis suburb, which is about six miles away from Ferguson. The officer's condition is unknown at this time.

UPDATE: The officer was shot in the arm, and appears to be doing well, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports.
