Benedict Cumberbatch announces engagement in classiest, most British way imaginable
Your typical celebrity engagement would end up splashed all over the cover of People or Us Weekly — but for their upcoming engagement, Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter went the old-fashioned way: a small, discreet announcement in the newspaper.
Cumberbatch and Hunter's engagement was revealed in a blunt, six-line story in the "Births, Marriages, and Deaths" section of The Times of London, buried all the way on page 57:
Lest readers think some other Benedict Cumberbatch had gotten engaged, a rep for the actor said she was "delighted to confirm" the news. The Daily Mail adds that Cumberbatch flew to Edinburgh over the weekend to ask permission of Hunter's mother before proposing.
