Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) handily won a second term Tuesday, fending off Democratic challenger Ed Fitzgerald. Kasich had been projected to win by a landslide — he led by around 30 points in late polls — and The Associated Press called the race as soon as polls closed.

Kasich had been one of Democrats' biggest gubernatorial targets early on, after polls showed voters rejecting his conservative first-term agenda. But Fitzgerald's campaign imploded amid a bizarre parking lot scandal involving a woman who was not his wife, and he was forced to ditch his running mate, Eric Kearney, when it was revealed Kearney owed roughly $1 million in unpaid taxes.
