When does an internet meme go too far? Wherever the line is, Lifetime has picked up Grumpy Cat and sprinted several miles across it. Later this month, the network will premiere Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, a made-for-TV movie starring Aubrey Plaza as the voice of the titular cat:
Sure, the occasional Photoshopped picture is fine — but was anyone besides an overzealous PR team asking for a Grumpy Cat movie? How did we let one cranky-looking cat become the subject of a million-dollar empire that includes books, T-shirts, and a branded coffee drink?
We have The Grinch. We have Ebenezer Scrooge. That's plenty of curmudgeons for one Christmas season.
