Channing Tatum has signed on to play card-throwing mutant Gambit in a spin-off from the wildly popular X-Men franchise, according to Deadline. The film will reportedly get a screenplay from Josh Zetumer, who wrote the recent Robocop reboot, though potential plot details remain under wraps for now.

Tatum hinted earlier this year a Gambit film was on the way, saying it "might not be your typical superhero movie, because Gambit's sort of on the fringe." Gambit appeared in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though Tatum suggested he would offer a much different, Southern-style take on the character.
