Firebrand Gov. Paul LePage (R) may be pulling away in his re-election bid, as a Maine Sunday Telegram/Portland Press Herald poll released Sunday gives him a 10-point lead over Democratic challenger Rep. Mike Michaud.
LePage leads 45 percent to 35 percent in the poll of likely voters, with independent Eliot Cutler a distant third at 16 percent. Previous polls — including the last one from the Press Herald, taken in September — found the race tied. But Michaud's support among the Democratic base has fallen by 10 points in a month, possibly because of President Obama's low approval rating.
